Three Pirates: Anne, Mary, and Jack

James L. Nelson, known for his Revolution at Sea Saga, as well as the Brethren of the Coast trilogy, spins an amazing pirate tale in The Only Life That Mattered. The story is all the more remarkable because it is based on historical fact!

Calico Jack Rackam is just about ready to give up his command of a pirate band when he meets Anne Bonny, a very tough as well as attractive woman who seems remarkably well suited to the pirate life. Anne would as soon stab a man as give him a good tumble!

Anne and Jack capture a Dutch merchantman and pick up an unlikely crewmate--an expert sword fighter and skillman topmastman who is really a woman named Mary. The trio cut a bold swath through the West Indies, but is the pirate heyday about to end?

Nevertheless, the three choose to live a life of violence and freedom--the only life that mattered.

O'Brian's "21" is Here! But is it a Good Idea?

Three chapters of an untitled twenty-first Aubrey/Maturin novel remained on the desk of Patrick O'Brian at the time of his death. In a move that is generating a flurry of disparate opinions from nautical fiction readers, W. W. Norton has decided to publish the fragment. It's now available.

The book contains the extant three chapters . . . twice. The chapters appear both as normal text and as a facsimile of O'Brian's original manuscript.

Many O'Brian fans are delighted to have the opportunity to visit once again the beloved characters from their favorite historical fiction series. However, some cynics may wonder about the propriety of issuing an unfinished work. Is it a disservice to the memory of an author to commit his work to print when the author may not have considered it to be in final form?

The marketplace will decide what O'Brian's readers think! (We're not too proud to sell you a copy . . . at a discounted price. Just click on the cover image above.)

This link will lead you to the O'Brian page in our bookstore with all the hardcover and paperback Aubrey/Maturin books neatly listed.

Visit our bookstore even if you don't want to buy a book. It's filled with handy lists of the books in your favorite nautical fiction series--in order!
